The Sunday Readings
Soon after the publication of the Revised Lectionary, worked out as a result of the new and salutary emphasis in Vatican II on the place of scripture in the Church, Fr Henry was asked by the editor of The Catholic Herald to write a weekly column on the Sunday readings. These were eventually gathered together and published as The Sunday Word in 1979; the book has long been out of print. A few years ago, Dannie Firth started up The Wednesday Word, a child-friendly sheet aimed at taking the Gospel into the homes of families of children in Catholic primary schools. Dannie asked Fr Henry to help on the scriptural aspects. It soon became evident that a version for adult Christians would also be helpful. What follows here are details of the Sunday Readings and a Commentary on the readings from Fr Henry.
