New Ampleforth Abbey Altar - Work in Progress

Anthony Pooleman, Ampleforth's on-site Joiner, who trained with Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson, has been hard at work with Terry Harrington Craftsmen building a hand-crafted Altar for the Abbey Church. The complex, yet traditional Altar has been designed by Old Amplefordian Architect, Gerry Rogerson, in close liaison with Fr Abbot and the Community, and is made from solid oak taken from the Ampleforth estate, where it was also planked and air dried. The design includes hand-carved gridirons in recognition of St Laurence after whom the Abbey Church is dedicated.

We will include further updates on this exciting project as work progresses.
