	There was a pre-reformation convent on Tautra Island for centuries. The ruins are still visible there. The new community, recently given the status of an independent Priory, is composed of eight nuns, mostly American with some Norwegians too. The foundation stone of this new monastery, 'Tautra Mariakloster' was laid by Queen Sonja in 2003.
