Ampleforth Amber Liqueur 50cl This award winning liqueur is half Ampleforth's Cider Brandy, and half freshly crushed apple juice, from our own orchards. The brandy and juice get to know each other for a time in oak barrels before bottling on site. The bottle itself is beautiful, making it a spectacular gift. (And it is re-usable when empty - for olive oil, for instance...) There is no added sugar, but the natural fructose in the juice means that the finished produce is medium sweet, about as sweet as amontillado sherry and just a little stronger in alcohol (21%). The wonderful flavours and scent of apple are prominent. We recommend it to be drunk as you would drink medium sherry, as an appetiser before a meal or as a pick-me-up in the evening. Ampleforth Abbey Cider (1 litre) Fr Rainer makes this cider on site from our own orchard's apples in the traditional way. The result is a strong (8.3%), dry cider, where the final phase of fermentation often takes place in the bottle, making it quite lively! It is best served well chilled. Ampleforth Abbey Sloe Gin 200ml The sloes for this liqueur are picked from the blackthorn bushes that grow around the rugby pitches in the valley here at Amplefoth. They are steeped for at least 5 months in simple gin spirit before being hand bottled and labelled by the monks. It is less sugary than some examples, allowing the fruit flavour to come through.
