A brief history of biblical inerpretation by Henry Wansbrough OSB.
Fr Henry brings a lifetime of love and study of the Bible to this work which looks at how different generatons have read the scriptures for their own time and purposes. He begins with how the apostolic church read the Hebrew scriptures to find Christ in them, to modern political uses, including the situation in modern Israel.
Fr Henry is currently the Executive Secretary of the Commission which is preparing a new English Lectionary.

Seven Last Words - Hume
Cardinal Hume left several moving reflections on the Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross. Within them, he once said, there is a 'a message of hope, an Easter gift which gives meaning to Good Friday's agony'. These previously unpublished meditations are gathered here for the first time by Liam Kelly, his literary executor, so that we can share that message of hope in a new future. 'Let those words speak to you', the Cardinal wrote, 'and I will tell you what they have said to me.' (Small format hardback, 64pp)

Cooking Apples
We have published a revised version of Fr Edmund Hatton's book of apple recipes which was extremely popular back in 1982. This edition contains some new dishes, as well as the old favourites, making more than a hundred delicious recipes covering soups, main courses, desserts and cakes.
A delightful addition are the full page photographs of the valley and orchards.
It also includes some information on the famous orchards, managed at present by Fr Rainer, famous for his cider and cider brandy. He also offers some expert advice to those who wish to look after their own apple tree at home!
The book is ringbound to lie flat in use and the paper is to some extent 'wipe-clean' to protect it a little better in the kitchen environment.

Not Strangers but Pilgrims
A History of Ampleforth in Lourdes, by Bernard Green OSB.
The first chapter of this admirably written book covers the growth of Lourdes as a shrine but the remainder is precisely about the pilgrimages from Ampleforth to this extraordinary place. Lourdes growing accessibility by rail after the Great War, and the rise to prominence of Ampleforth College as a Catholic school, came together to make the Ampleforth Lourdes Pilgrimage a memorable event, deserving its own history, and here it is.
Proceeds from sales of this book go towards F.O.A.L.S. (Friends of Ampleforth Lourdes Sick.

Gilling Castle
the story of the House and Its Families, St Laurence's Papers XI.
This pamphlet, 65pp long, recounts the history of Gilling Castle from its building in the 14th century to the year 2007. It makes fascinating enquiry into a number of aspects of the Castle, including who actually built it, whether the stained glass has always been where it is now, what is behind the paneling of the Great Chamber and its role supporting Catholics during the penal days. Many of our readers will be most interested in the final chapter on its use as a school. It is illustrated throughout with original photographs not just of the present building but of archive material never seen in one place before.

Listening with Love
Pastoral Counselling - a Christian response to people living with HIV/AIDS, by Robert Igo OSB.
HIV/AIDS has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. For those infected with the disease, and their families, friends and neighbours, living with AIDS is often especially difficult because of the ignorance, fear and prejudice they encounter. Those who live with HIV/AIDS can feel isolated and ashamed, unable to voice their fears for themselves and their loved ones. The care and counselling of those living with HIV/AIDS can seem an immensely difficult task.
'Listening with Love' is designed for all those Christians who are called to help people cope with HIV/AIDS. Step by step, it introduces us to the basic medical facts and guides us through practical, loving approaches that enable us to empathize and communicate with those whose lives have been transformed by the disease.
This is a World Council of Churches publication.

by Aelred Graham OSB
More timely than ever, this gem of a book blends East and West in to a spiritual vision of enormous practical value. "The questions to be discussed are whether what is essential to Buddhism, with its Zen emphasis, does not have its counterpart in Catholicism, whether Catholics might not be helped, by the Zen insight, to realise more fully their own spiritual inheritance."
